
Director of Risk Management of Alfa-Bank
Philip Halperin has been with Alfa-Bank since 1999, and as Director of Risk Management he is responsible for all market, credit and operational risk management. Before joining the Bank he was Head of Risk Management at Refco Overseas Ltd in London. Prior to that, he worked as risk manager, trading manager, and options trader at Refco Group Ltd in New York, reporting directly to one of the three shareholders. In this capacity, he wrote one of the first large parametric risk management systems.
Mr Halperin was a featured speaker at OpRisk 2004 in London, as well as at the 2005 Global Risk Summit Conference in Monaco. He has given seminars in strategic risk management and options for PRMIA (Moscow), Euromoney (London), and he has co-authored Worldly Wisdom, a periodic derivatives advice column in Futures & OTC World. He also maintains a risk management website.
Mr Halperin followed a Ph.D. course in business administration at Columbia University, has a Masters Degree in Public and Private Management from Yale Universitys School of Organisation and Management, and a BA from Yale College. Mr Halperin was born in the United States in 1952.
